Fat Lady Sings - Ballet reviews
As a fan of the Opera (and Ballet), I try and go as often as I can. When I worked there, we had frequent opportunity to go to rehearsals, something I still sometimes get to go to. Here are a few reviews from things I've seen.

La Fille mal gardee (Ashton) - ROH 2001 (also in 1999)

I love this ballet! The title is meaningless, and the story is pretty thin, but the choreography is fantastic e.g. the Clog Dance. Essentially it's about a girl (Lise) who's in love with a boy (Colas), but her mother (Widow Simone), who's danced by a man, plans for her to marry a rich stupid boy (Alain) who'd much rather be with his red umbrella.

High points - the ribbon dance and maypole (takes me back), the clog dance and the chickens (how do they dance in those costumes?). Irek was pretty good as usual - although he's a bit old to do a convincing boy.

Performers: Ashley Page (Widow Simone), Miyake Yoshida (Lise), Irek Mukhamedov (Colas), Jonathan Howells (Alain).

Swan Lake (ballet) - ROH

The Nutcracker (ballet) - ROH

Cinderella (ballet) - ROH

Romeo & Juliet (ballet) - ROH

La Bayadere (ballet) - ROH
